In His Image

Pop-culture Worldview

What you’re really being taught from Taylor Swift to Oprah- our culture is actively evangelizing with a secular worldview; the question is: can you spot it? In this session, attendees will get a crash course in pop-culture theology. We will see how Oprah’s relativistic discipleship shaped women’s faith for three generations, understand how 3rd wave feminism has made more converts than Latter-day Saints, and recognize how socialism is en vogue on college campuses. Next, attendees will learn how to stand firm in their faith by navigating common snares holding many in bondage to false ideology, learning good research tactics, and  finishing up with practical techniques for fruitful evangelism.

this lifestyle exploits everyone involved. In this session, we’ll evaluate the dangers of

hook-up culture, see the science behind how our brains can be hijacked into a false sense of trust, and understand the why behind God’s design for intimacy to be shared within marriage. This talk is perfect for youth groups but is also appropriate for parents, helping them have a better discussion about God’s design for intimacy.

Transhumanism's Superlongevity: A Tolkienian Critique

Transhumanism is the view that humanity’s problems can and should be solved through science and technology. Transhumanists envision a techno-utopian society referred to as a triple ‘S’ civilization of Superintelligence, Superlongevity, and Superhappiness, a future where there is a gradual blurring of the traditional boundaries between human persons and machines. This, they propose, will eventually lead to a new species labeled “posthumans.”

But even if such a future is viable, is it desirable? Are there reasons to consider that this techno-utopia may be anything but?

Through the lens of literature (Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings) Dr. Julie Miller challenges the presuppositions of transhumanism. Likening technology to the Rings of Power, Miller argues that the trans-humanism’s project of superlongevity is in fact a counterfeit of true immortality. Miller offers fresh perspective, wisdom, and insight on a topic important to everyone—immortality.

Have Christians been misinterpreting what the Bible says about homosexuality? Pro-gay theologians claim we have. This talk begins with a biblical sexuality overview and context on the subject of homosexuality. We’ll then examine common pro-gay theology objections (Paul is only condemning pederasty, Jesus was silent on this issue, etc.) and why they fail in light of Scripture and its historical context.
